Bauxite mining in the jarrah forest of southwestern Australia occurs on land subject to multiple use. Techniques for the reestablishment of a variety of ground covers based on native and introduced species have therefore been developed. Shallow mining of stered ore bodies 2 to 100 ha in area allows close integration of rehabilitation with mining.
